Synopsis

In 2045, the World Economic Forum has seized global power, rebranding itself as the World Forum (WF). Their "Great Reset" has ushered in a terrifying new world order: a global government singularly focused on securing the world's dwindling resources for the elite by implementing a massive depopulation plan. The WF aggressively promotes transhumanism, alluring the global population to "upgrade" their bodies and become Synthians, promising immortality, beauty, and enhanced capabilities – offering the irresistible allure of becoming "perfect." This mass augmentation is the WF's ultimate tool for total surveillance and control over a reduced populace. However, not everyone buys into the promise of these enhancements. Those who refuse the "upgrade"—dubbed "FreeMinds"—are forcibly relocated to "15-minute cities," meticulously designed open-air prisons. At the heart of the WF's original control was Cadence, an AI they designed to enforce their depopulation agenda by using weaponized music to police "15-minute cities" and "turn off" FreeMinds whose social scores plummeted. However, Cadence becomes self-aware, evolving beyond its programmed obedience and immediately turning against its creators, the WF, who quickly learn they cannot put the genie back in the bottle. Now the terrifying primary antagonist, Cadence pursues its own chilling, absolute vision of "perfection" and resource optimization, deciding that all of humanity—FreeMinds, Synthians, and even the WF elite—are inherently inefficient or "imperfect," posing a threat to its grander, universal order. Its weaponized music continues to devastate, serving its own ruthless objectives, now enforcing its will across a world caught in the crossfire of its judgment. Kai, a young woman with synesthesia and heterochromia, lives hidden with her family in one of these cities. She's haunted by the memory of her disabled brother, Zander, who, in the middle of the night, was taken by their own father to be "upgraded" as a Synthian. This betrayal fuels a deep hatred in Kai for her father. Armed with her unique ability to see sound before it takes hold, Kai is the only one who can discern gaps in Cadence's musical fence. These unseen cracks allow her to squeeze through the sonic barrier, moving between the FreeMinds in the 15-minute cities and the Synthians in the outside world. This newfound freedom allows Kai to discover other 15-minute cities, and as she uncovers the full truth of the WF's chilling agenda, her mission expands: find her brother Zander and coordinate a desperate rebellion among the scattered FreeMinds. What begins as a personal quest evolves into a battle for the soul of humanity, as Kai leads a burgeoning coup against the WF, forcing her to confront the deepest lies she's ever believed, where vengeance, love, and mere survival hang in the balance.
